Week Three:

Hour 1
1. Participants are invited to share their HW lesson slides with the class.
2. They will demonstrate their lesson for the class.
3. Save and upload the lessons to the wiki as a sample and resource.

Hour 2-3


Break up the participants into 3 equal groups. Rotate the students through 3 stations (in separate rooms or areas within the room - depending on availability). 40 minutes in each station for demonstration and hands-on practice.

Station 1. Using Additional SmartBoard Tools to Enhance Our Lessons

• Using the Recording feature
• Using the Camera tool to reach visual learners
• Inserting Images
• Inserting Sound to reach auditory learners
• Inserting a Hypertext Link to add depth to our research
• Using the Handwriting Recognition tool
• Adding additional attachments under the attachments tab i.e. Quicktime movie file, pdf file, wav file that goes along with your lesson



Recorder – records all actions that take place on your interactive whiteboard. You can add audio separately with a microphone and share the recording

Camera Tool - Click on Camera and camera toolbar appears. Can capture area, full screen, window, or freehand capture from your desktop. Great for adding website images. The captured image automatically appears as a page in your notebook file.

Inserting images - Insert > Picture File

Inserting sound – (recognizes mp3 files only)– Insert > Sound

Link - Insert > Link ( Can also go to View > Customize Toolbar > Drag Link icon into toolbar if you want)

Handwriting Recognition Tool – Select object, click on arrow, click on recognize " "

Insert video – Insert > Video File (flash files only)



Station 2. Airliner Demonstration

Station 3. Sympodium Demonstration

Required Hardware:
  • Projector (and screen)
  • Computer
  • Sympodium (replaces monitor)
Setup:
  • Connection and adjustment of display
What is the Sympodium:
  • Interactive display

    • Functions/Buttons

    • Left-click, Right-click, Digital Ink (black, blue, red and green) and Eraser

    • “Inkaware” Word, PPT
    • Internet Browser
  • Presentation tool:
    • Write over presentations
      • Emphasis
      • Additions
  • Save (Notebook or application specific)
    • Send to students
    • Reuse in the future
  • Engage Students:
    • Face them while teaching, less menus
    • Record desktop video and audio

Bring all the participants back together as a whole group.

Discuss Final Presentation Assignment:

Complete a lesson that includes the following items (Each participant will present during week 4):
  • 5-7 slides

  • grouping
  • locked items
  • interactivity - i.e. hiding
  • cloning
  • shape
  • line
  • picture inserted from file or internet
  • multimedia
  • animation-optional

Allow participants time to begin working on their lessons. Remind them to save it to their thumb drive to take home to continue their work.
